The auction of a luxury apartment in Manhattan, New York, United States, will donate all its proceeds to the development of the Gorongosa Project.
The auction, conducted by the Concierge Auctions platform in partnership with Sotheby's International Realty, has already met its reserve price, with bidding currently open at US$8.25 million.
However, this amount represents only the confirmed starting bid and not the final donation generated by the transaction. This exclusive residence was initially listed on the market for US$14.9 million. The bidding process will conclude live on 29 July as part of Sotheby's prestigious "America 250" event in New York.
All raised funds will be channelled to support biodiversity conservation and community empowerment efforts in the Gorongosa National Park. It is worth noting that the management of this natural sanctuary is based on a public-private partnership between the Government of Mozambique and the Carr Foundation, formalised in 2008 and extended in 2018 for an additional 25 years.
According to Concierge Auctions, the funding resulting from this sale will sustain the ongoing recovery work of this ecosystem and provide direct support to surrounding communities. Alongside animal protection, the human dimension remains a priority pillar of Gorongosa's sustainable development strategy, with its environmental education programme reaching 45,516 students and 734 teachers across 85 schools, according to the 2025 assessment.

Bidding on one of Manhattan's most iconic and irreplaceable residences is itself a rare opportunity, but knowing that every dollar of the purchase price goes directly toward protecting one of Africa's most remarkable ecosystems makes this something genuinely unique in luxury real estate”.
From an architectural standpoint, the property of approximately 464 square metres sits atop the iconic Sohmer Piano Building, located at 170 Fifth Avenue within the Ladies' Mile Historic District. The Beaux-Arts style structure was designed in 1897 and completed the following year by the renowned architect Robert Maynicke.
