A new co-management agreement for Gilé National Park, covering the period from 2024 to 2033, has been officially proposed to the Ministry of Land and Environment, after being presented to the National Administration of Conservation Areas (ANAC).
The new agreement includes five key areas of intervention: the fight against poaching, community development, infrastructure development, administrative management, wildlife conservation and international funding.
The news of the renewed management of this conservation area also mentions that the French Development Agency (AFD) has confirmed funding for the third phase of the Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFP) project until 2026, reinforcing the international commitment to environmental conservation in Mozambique.
With an area of over 430,000 hectares, Gilé National Park is managed in partnership by the François Sommer Foundation and the Mozambican government. This new management model represents a significant step forward in the collaborative approach to preserving the country's natural resources.
Last year was marked by the largest animal translocation operation ever carried out in Mozambique, with the reintroduction of 200 buffalo into Gilé National Park from the Marromeu Reserve showing impressive results.
